Russian President Vladimir Putin could not hide his anger during a press conference on the last day of the BRICS summit held in Kazan, in response to questions from BBC reporter Steve Rosenberg about the invasion of Ukraine. Over three days, Putin hosted world leaders such as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and he had harshly criticized the West. However, when the BBC reporter asked how Russia's actions in Ukraine aligned with the BRICS' core values of justice, stability, and security, Putin's demeanor changed. Responding angrily to the question, Putin criticized NATO's eastward expansion and accused the West of "lying to our faces." He also accused the United States of orchestrating a coup in Ukraine in 2014. Other prominent topics at the summit included UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call for a "just peace" in Ukraine and military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. Putin expressed a positive view of former US President Trump's promise to end the conflict in Ukraine. The summit, attended by 36 countries, demonstrated the failure of the West's efforts to isolate Russia, while also addressing issues such as financial cooperation, resolution of regional conflicts, and the expansion of BRICS.
