In September, the payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards increased by 79% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1 trillion 449.4 billion Turkish lira.

The Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced its data for September. Accordingly, as of September, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 127.2 million, the number of bank cards reached 192.8 million, and the number of prepaid cards reached 103.1 million. Compared to the same period last year, there was a 13% increase in the number of credit cards, a 5% increase in the number of bank cards, and a 22% increase in the number of prepaid cards. The total number of cards in September reached 423.1 million, showing an 11% increase compared to the same period last year.



CARD PAYMENTS REACHED 1.44 TRILLION LIRA



The total payment amount made with credit cards, bank cards, and prepaid cards in September increased by 79% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 trillion 449.4 billion lira. Of the card payments, 1 trillion 220.3 billion lira was made with credit cards, 200.3 billion lira with bank cards, and 28.8 billion lira with prepaid cards. In September, the growth in payments made with credit cards compared to the same month last year was 86%, while it was 48% for payments made with bank cards and 104% for payments made with prepaid cards.



NUMBER OF CARD PURCHASES INCREASED BY 16% YEAR-ON-YEAR



The number of payments made with credit cards, bank cards, and prepaid cards in September increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.58 billion. In numerical terms, 913.2 million of the card payments were made with credit cards, 550.3 million with bank cards, and 117.2 million with prepaid cards.



ALL CARD SPENDING INCREASED



The growth in the number of payments made with credit cards compared to the same period last year was 16%, while it was 4% for payments made with bank cards and 35% for payments made with prepaid cards. Online card payments increased by 88% compared to the same period last year, rising to 428.5 billion lira. The share of online card payments in total payments was 29%. The number of online card payments increased by 11% compared to the same period last year, reaching 225.1 million, accounting for 15% of total payments.



21% INCREASE IN CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS



The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 21% compared to the same period last year. The amount of contactless payments increased by 93% compared to the same period last year, reaching 458.8 billion lira. In September, approximately 4 out of every 5 card payments made in stores were contactless.
