The hazelnut export from the Eastern Black Sea region in the 9 months of the year increased by 53% in value compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 billion 59 million 549 thousand 188 dollars. According to the data compiled from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Union (DKİB), exports were made to 86 countries from the region in 9 months.
The hazelnut export recorded as 690 million 596 thousand 83 dollars in January-September 2023 increased by 53% in the same period of this year, reaching 1 billion 59 million 549 thousand 188 dollars. In terms of quantity, the export, which was 110 thousand 101 tons in the 9 months of last year, increased by 17% to 128 thousand 319 tons in the same period of this year. EXPORT TO GERMANY INCREASED BY 65%Germany, Italy, and Poland were the top 3 countries for hazelnut exports from the region. In the January-September period, 32 thousand 701 tons of hazelnuts worth 262 million 748 thousand 307 dollars were exported to Germany from the Eastern Black Sea. In the same period last year, 26 thousand 388 tons of hazelnuts worth 159 million 175 thousand 246 dollars were sold from the region. Thus, hazelnut exports to Germany increased by 24% in quantity and 65% in value compared to the same period last year. Italy followed Germany with 195 million 945 thousand 515 dollars, and Poland with 100 million 626 thousand 443 dollars. 37% INCREASE IN TRABZON EXPORTS50% of the region's hazelnut exports were carried out from Trabzon. In the January-September period of the year, hazelnut exports worth 533 million 623 thousand 652 dollars were made from Trabzon to 58 countries, primarily Italy. In the same period last year, exports worth 390 million 448 thousand 428 dollars were made from the city. Thus, hazelnut exports from Trabzon also increased by 37% in value compared to the same period last year. YEAR-END TARGET FOR HAZELNUT EXPORTS IS HIGHERMehmet Cirav, the Chairman of the DKİB Hazelnut and Hazelnut Products Sector Committee, stated that hazelnuts are one of the traditional production and export products of the region. Emphasizing the importance of hazelnut agriculture and exports, Cirav said, "Despite the pressure of exchange rates and costs in domestic markets and the demand not being at the desired level in foreign markets, we predict that hazelnut exports will close the year with an increase." Cirav also emphasized their efforts to increase the diversity of countries, stating, "There is a short time left until the end of the year. We believe that our hazelnut exports will reach a much better level by the end of the year."
