The Ministry of Justice has initiated the official process for the temporary arrest of fugitive suspect Umut Altaş, who is in the United States, and for his international search with a 'red notice' in the investigation of Gülistan Doku.
Since January 5, 2020, there has been no news of Gülistan Doku, a second-year student in the Child Development Department of Munzur University in Tunceli, and a new development has occurred in the investigation.
RED NOTICE FOR FUGITIVE UMUT ALTAŞ
The Ministry of Justice has initiated the official process for the temporary arrest of the fugitive suspect Umut Altaş and for his international search through a 'red notice'.
The ministry informed the relevant ministries to send Altaş's extradition file to the competent authorities in the United States where he is located, and to ensure that a 'red notice' is issued by INTERPOL General Secretariat.
10 SUSPECTS HAD BEEN ARRESTED
The family of university student Gülistan Doku (21), who has been missing since January 5, 2020, came from their hometown Diyarbakır to Tunceli and filed a missing person report with the police on January 6, 2020, but no results were obtained from the search efforts initiated.
Based on new information, the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation for the crimes of "intentional killing," "sexual assault," "concealment-destruction of evidence," "illegally accessing a computer system to destroy-alter data," "deprivation of liberty," "failure to report a crime," and "aiding a criminal," and 15 suspects, including the then-Governor of Tunceli Tuncay Sonel, were detained.
Among the suspects, Tuncay Sonel's son Mustafa Türkay Sonel, former police officer Gökhan Ertok who is alleged to have deleted data from Doku's SIM card, former Tunceli Special Administration employee Erdoğan Elaldı, Celal Altaş, Nurşen Arıkan, Ferhat Hanedan Güven, Doku's boyfriend Zeinal Abakarov, her mother Cemile Yücer, and her stepfather Engin Yücer, who is also a former police officer, along with Şükrü Eroğlu, who was Tuncay Sonel's protection police at that time, were arrested. Uğurcan A. and Savaş G. and Süleyman Ö., who were responsible for the security cameras of Munzur University, were released under judicial control with a travel ban imposed on them.
Tuncay Sonel is currently undergoing interrogation procedures at the Erzurum Police Department.
