New Party MP Mustafa Sarıgül denied claims that his son Emir Sarıgül, for whom a detention order was issued as part of a money laundering and aggravated fraud investigation, had taken refuge in his residence in Ankara and that police had surrounded the house. Sarıgül said, "I am currently at my home in Istanbul. Please, come over." Stating that he believes his son will go to the police and the prosecutor's office and give a statement, Sarıgül said, "There is no account of ours that cannot be given."
New Party Erzincan MP Mustafa Sarıgül denied the claims that his son Emir Sarıgül was staying at his parliamentary residence in Ankara in order not to be taken into custody. Sarıgül also said in his statement that he believed his son would go to the police and the prosecutor's office and tell the truth.
CLAIM THAT “MUSTAFA SARIGÜL'S HOUSE WAS SURROUNDED”
Within the scope of the money laundering and aggravated fraud investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was alleged that Emir Sarıgül, for whom a detention order had been issued, was at a house belonging to his father in the Mutlukent Neighborhood of Ankara's Çankaya district.
It was claimed that police teams went to the address to take Sarıgül into custody but could not enter because it was a parliamentary residence. It was alleged that the police took precautions around the house and waited for Sarıgül to come out.
HE DENIED THE CLAIMS
After the reports in question, Mustafa Sarıgül published a video and, stating that the claims were unfounded, said: “Life sometimes makes you laugh, sometimes saddens you. Sometimes you also encounter unfounded news. Right now, I am facing one of them. I look and see in some media outlets: ‘Emir Sarıgül is at home, and the surroundings have been surrounded by police officers.’ I am currently at my home in Istanbul. Please, come on over.”
“MY SON WILL GO AND TELL THE TRUTH”
Expressing that Emir Sarıgül would make a statement to the competent authorities within the scope of the investigation, Mustafa Sarıgül said: “I believe my son will go as soon as possible and tell the truth to our police and our prosecutor, and the truth will come out. No one can cover up the truth. We also have no account that cannot be given. You should have no concern either.”
“THEY WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BEFORE THE LAW”
In his statement, Sarıgül also alleged that fake documents were prepared and said: “Those who send a receipt for one hundred liras and then fake and correct them with artificial intelligence will, God willing, also be held accountable before the law.”
WHAT HAPPENED?
The criminal complaint filed with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by German citizens Kai Precat and Marc Baeriswyl became the start of an investigation into millions of euros in money movements alleged to be linked to the Sarıgül family. The complainants alleged that they were contacted for the purpose of transferring undeclared money in Turkey to other countries and bringing funds of unknown origin from abroad into Turkey.
One of the allegations in the application concerned the sale of a waterfront mansion said to belong to Emir Sarıgül. It was alleged that 100 million euros were sent from abroad for the property, whose appraisal value was shown as 32 million euros, but the transaction was stopped by a foreign bank. During the period when the block on the money continued, it was claimed that a yacht registered in the United Kingdom and worth 1.5 million euros was transferred to Emir Sarıgül, although the sale price was not paid.
The complainants also reported that they signed contracts with North Real Estate Construction and Industry Trade Inc. through their companies abroad. It was stated that one of these agreements involved an investment of 80 million euros.
Another allegation reflected in the investigation file concerned an online meeting attended by Mustafa Sarıgül. It was alleged that Sarıgül stated at the meeting in question that a resource of 1 billion euros could be provided from abroad by using credit.
The file included not only allegations regarding financial transactions but also accusations about how the documents in the complainants' possession were used.
Precat and Baeriswyl stated that they handed over some audio and video recordings and documents to journalist Murat Ağırel for him to investigate the events. However, they alleged that Ağırel passed these materials to Mustafa Sarıgül instead of disclosing them to the competent authorities or the public. The two complainants also claimed that they were threatened after the documents were passed on.
In the audio recordings said to have been obtained within the scope of the investigation, it was reported that there were conversations about carrying out money movements through debt relationships or invoices.
In the investigation conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that a detention order was issued for Mustafa Sarıgül's son Ömer Sarıgül, his ex-wife Aylin Kotil, former Turkey Change Party executive Volkan Aslanbaş, former banker Cavidan Tanrah Artuner, and journalist Murat Ağırel.
The relevant part of the file was sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the evaluation of the accusations concerning MP Mustafa Sarıgül.
