RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin warned that music and video broadcasts containing excessive sexual content, vulgar language, and profanity should be brought into compliance with broadcasting principles.

The President of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), Ebubekir Şahin, warned that music and video broadcasts containing excessive sexual content, vulgar and profane language should be brought into compliance with "broadcasting principles" without disrupting the current HTML.

"TAKE OUR WARNING SERIOUSLY"

In a statement on his social media account, Şahin reported that the reports of monitoring experts reflected that music video broadcasters in Turkey "exceeded the limits of morality and decency". He stated that excessive sexual content was detected in the video clips broadcasted by music channels, and that nudity was frequently present in these broadcasters. Şahin also noted that radio channels broadcasting music frequently played songs containing vulgar and profane language. In his statement, Şahin used the following expressions: "It is necessary for the relevant broadcasters to address these contents, which are contrary to our traditions, beliefs, social and cultural values, within their own mechanisms and bring them into compliance with the broadcasting principles stated in our Law No. 6112. Otherwise, it is well known that our Supreme Council has the authority within the framework of the law. It is of utmost importance that our warning is taken seriously and that music videos that are incompatible with our national and spiritual values are carefully reviewed."
