Local journalist Aysın Komitgan in Bursa used scandalous expressions during a live broadcast regarding the deceased FETÖ leader Fethullah Gülen, saying, "May his place be paradise." The chief prosecutor's office has launched an investigation against Komitgan.
JOURNALIST PRAYED FOR GÜLEN DURING LIVE BROADCAST
Aysın Komitgan, the Editor-in-Chief of a local news site in Bursa, used scandalous expressions while announcing the death of FETÖ leader Fethullah Gülen during a live television program. Komitgan said, "May his place be paradise."
INVESTIGATION INITIATED
Following the controversial statements, the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation against Komitgan on charges of "praising crime and criminals" and "making terrorist propaganda." Teams from the Bursa Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch also invited Aysın Komitgan to the police station for questioning.
STATEMENT FROM THE NEWS SITE: THE EXPRESSED STATEMENTS DEEPLY HURT US
In a statement from the management of the news site in question, the following was stated: "In a TV interview conducted today with the President of the Turkish University Women’s Association, the expressions made by Aysın Komitgan, who works as a columnist and editor-in-chief in our institution, regarding the death of the traitor and terrorist leader, which contradict the sensitivities of our society, have deeply hurt us as well. Regardless of the intention, it is absolutely unacceptable for our institution's name to be associated with a process that will cause such negative effects in our society."
"NECESSARY STEPS WILL BE TAKEN IMMEDIATELY"
The indivisible integrity of our country and homeland is, like every honorable citizen, our red line. The accountability that the mastermind of the treacherous coup attempt, the FETÖ leader, and his followers will have to give before this great nation, especially to our martyrs and veterans, is one of our greatest desires, just like the entire society. In this context, there should be no doubt that we will take the necessary steps immediately."
KOMITGAN: IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO PRAY FOR THE DEATH OF THE FETÖ LEADER
On the other hand, journalist Aysın Komitgan apologized to the public in a statement made on her personal social media account. Komitgan used the following expressions: "Some expressions made under live broadcast conditions can unfortunately be interpreted differently, especially during such sensitive periods socially. To express my feelings clearly, as a Turkish citizen who has lived his life strictly adhering to Atatürk's principles and the values of the Republic, and who is also a member of the CHP, it is absolutely impossible for me to pray for the death of the FETÖ leader, who has treacherous plans against our country. Neither I nor my family have ever had any connection with such sects at any point in our lives."
"I COULD NOT FULLY REFLECT MY FEELINGS DURING THE LIVE BROADCAST"
Therefore, everyone in my close circle, as well as those I communicate with professionally, knows very well that my stance and attitude towards this person, who has treacherous plans against our country, has been clear from the very first day. However, I used such an expression because I could not fully reflect my feelings during the live broadcast. Unfortunately, due to the repercussions of the words spoken live, I ended up using this among the hundreds of words that came to my mind. However, it is truly sad that a sentence expressed with human feelings has been so distorted. For this reason, I apologize to the public on behalf of myself and my institution for my erroneous words that caused a different perception."
