Images of the municipal police personnel of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality scolding an elderly citizen who complained, "The meals are insufficient," have drawn significant backlash.
"DID YOU EARN THE MONEY FOR THIS?"
The police chief confronted the citizen by saying, "What didn't you like about this meal?" and continued, "The state has sent you soup, chickpeas, and rice! If it's not enough, you will eat less, uncle! Did you earn the money for this? If the state gives you this, you will eat it! If you have money, go earn it. From now on, you will eat this. You will eat it in the morning, at noon, in the evening, and even at night," he said.
"IF IT'S NOT ENOUGH, YOU WILL EAT LESS"
In the continuation of the video, the police chief intensified his remarks towards the citizen, stating: "The state is sending you food. Who are you? Who are you? Don't call the municipality unnecessarily again. If it's not enough, you will eat less! Don't call the police again!"
PRESIDENT GÜLER: THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN 2020, WE HAVE INITIATED AN INVESTIGATION
Ordu Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Güler, in a statement regarding the issue, said, "The municipal police officer in the video has been working for Ordu Municipality for about 20 years and was employed as a permanent municipal police officer during the term of CHP Ordu Deputy Seyit Torun. He is a personnel subject to the Law No. 657 on Public Servants. An administrative investigation has been initiated against the relevant personnel who committed this unfortunate incident in 2020, who knowingly allowed themselves to be recorded during the incident, and who used words that we will never condone against a citizen we are always at the service of, showing a lack of public seriousness and duty awareness. Necessary actions will be taken," he said.
