The "Healthy Turkey Century" promotional meeting with the theme "Producing Health" was held at the Ministry of Health Bilkent Campus.
Minister Memişoğlu stated that a significant transformation and development in the health system has been achieved under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan since 2002, and that the Health Transformation Program has been implemented with the AK Party governments. He expressed that during the pandemic period, health services were interrupted in developed countries, while in Turkey, uninterrupted health services were provided to all citizens, and a helping hand was extended to countries in need during the same period.
"WE ARE BUILDING AN ECOSYSTEM THAT GOES FROM IDEA TO PRODUCT"
Minister Memişoğlu emphasized the importance of a strong health infrastructure, which was also experienced during the global COVID-19 pandemic and the disaster of the century, the earthquakes on February 6, stating:
"We are taking another step in the health field. Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we are implementing the 'Protective, Developing, and Producing Health Model' and the 'Healthy Turkey Century Program' in the upcoming period. We are realizing our new vision through TÜSEB; we are building an ecosystem that goes from idea to product. We aim for this ecosystem to be the carrier of our national health technology initiative. We see our Producing Health Model as an important step where we create brands and added value in the health sector, contribute to our country's economic growth and development, meet our own needs, and export technology and products to the world. While taking this step, we fully trust the human resources and experience that Turkey has cultivated, the accumulation of our academics, the production capacity and entrepreneurship of our industrialists, and the encouraging role of our government and ministry."
A TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER OFFICE IS BEING ESTABLISHED IN 3 CITY HOSPITALS
Providing information on how the Producing Health model will operate, Memişoğlu said, "We are bringing together our universities and private sector with our triple helix model under the leadership of TÜSEB. We are strongly involving our healthcare workers, especially our physicians, in this process."
Memişoğlu stated that they have planned R&D and production processes, providing knowledge, experience, and financial support, saying, "For this purpose, we are taking our first significant step by establishing 'Technology Transfer Offices' in our city hospitals, starting with Etlik, Bilkent, and Çam Sakura. In this way, we are positioning our healthcare workers, who are directly involved in the practice and know the needs best, at the center of the Producing Health ecosystem. We offer every kind of support to every healthcare worker who knocks on our door with a new idea, from patents to legal assistance, from R&D to financial support. We also connect them with industrialists and producers." he said.
"WE ARE DOUBLING R&D SUPPORT"
Expressing that they have seen the production capacities of industrialists on-site and planned which steps to take together, Memişoğlu stated that they are also conducting significant work here, analyzing the products that Turkey still has to import in the highest quantities and at the highest costs, such as medical devices and drugs.
Memişoğlu emphasized that they aim to minimize Turkey's dependence on foreign countries in the health sector by making the right matches and facilitating the collaboration between TÜSEB, universities, and industry as soon as possible.
In this context, he stated that they support projects for diagnostic and therapeutic products, medical devices, vaccines, and drug development, saying, "We are doubling R&D support in 2025. We have increased our sample size in our genomics center, which is of great importance in the diagnosis of rare diseases, more than three times in the last two months. Thus, we are becoming capable of diagnosing rare genetic diseases that have not been diagnosed. Within the scope of the Turkey National Genome Project; we are developing an integrative system in our country regarding access to gene therapies, developing new treatment methods, and qualified human resources, especially for cancer and rare diseases."
MINISTER MEMİŞOĞLU GAVE THE GOOD NEWS
Minister Memişoğlu emphasized that they share their vast health data with the scientific community, continuing: "Thus, we aim for this data to serve the development of health technologies and new products and for our domestic IT sector to become an effective power in international competition. Our Producing Health Model will hopefully be the locomotive of our 'National Health Technology' initiative. Our Producing Health Model will elevate our country's health competence and sustainability to the highest level. I would like to give a piece of good news, one of the first steps of our Producing Health Model; the coverage of health services by the Social Security Institution in scientific studies supported by TÜSEB has been accepted in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly as of yesterday."
