New warnings came from AKOM and Meteorology for Istanbul, where the effects of the flood disaster continue. While rainfall is expected to intensify especially in Beykoz, Sarıyer, Şile and Eyüpsultan on Saturday, meteorology expert Abdullah Macit stated that the risk of flooding and landslides continues due to the soil being saturated with water. Macit called on citizens not to go out into traffic unless necessary.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) issued a new and critical warning for Istanbul.

BOTH COLD AND RAINY WEATHER WILL BE EFFECTIVE

In the statement made by IMM, it was noted that a large part of Turkey, especially Istanbul, has come under the influence of a cold air mass coming over the Balkans and rainy systems carried over the Central Mediterranean.

WILL INTENSIFY TOMORROW

In the statement, which noted that due to the strong downpour that started on Tuesday morning and continued without interruption in the city, rainfall of between 130 and 278 kilograms per square meter fell in the districts around the Bosphorus and in the northern and central parts of the European Side, it was reported that the rainfall was moderately effective in the northern districts throughout the night and lightly in other areas.

5 DISTRICTS AT RISK

In the statement, which said that the rainfall expected to continue intermittently throughout the province during the day could be locally strong in the northern districts of Arnavutköy, Eyüp, Sarıyer, Beykoz and Şile, it was reported that the rainfall is estimated to intensify across the city tomorrow, especially in Beykoz, Sarıyer, Şile and Eyüp.

In the statement, it was stated that IMM teams rescued and evacuated 622 people stranded in the city due to the rainfall, and that currently all roads in the city are open to traffic except Şile Teke-Darlık Road and Şile Geredeli Neighborhood Geredeli Street.

CAUTION FROM THIS HOUR ON

In the updated new map of the Meteorology, it was seen that heavy rainfall will begin today from 18:00 and intensify starting from the night hours.

It was reported that the rainfall will be very heavy during the day tomorrow as well.

“THE RISK CONTINUES. BECAUSE THE SOIL HAS REACHED SATURATION”

Abdullah Macit, weather forecast expert of the General Directorate of Meteorology, who also made assessments regarding the weather expected across the country, said that heavy rainfall is expected in Istanbul on Saturday, and locally very heavy rainfall in the northern and eastern parts of the city.

Answering the question about whether the same amount of rainfall is expected again after the rainfall that was effective in the city yesterday, Macit said, “Even if it is not that much in amount, our risk continues. Because the soil has reached saturation. Therefore, let us warn Istanbulites against heavy rainfall on Saturday until the night hours.”

IT WILL LOSE ITS EFFECT ON SUNDAY

Macit stated that the rainfall in Istanbul will lose its effect after the morning hours on Sunday.

Macit, asking citizens to be careful against floods, flash floods and landslides, advised not to go out into traffic unless necessary on Saturday, especially in Istanbul.

LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL EXPECTED IN KOCAELİ, SAKARYA, YALOVA AND BURSA

Reporting that rainfall continues especially in the western and northeastern parts of the country, Macit stated that they expect rainfall to continue across the country on Saturday and Sunday.

Abdullah Macit, stating that rainfall will be heavy on Saturday in eastern Marmara, Inner Aegean, Mediterranean Region, western Central Anatolia and Western Black Sea, noted the following:

“On Saturday, rainfall will be severe at times especially around Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova and Bursa. We ask citizens to be careful against floods and flash floods. On Sunday, we estimate that rainfall will be very heavy and severe around Düzce, Zonguldak and Bartın.”

HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED IN ANKARA, THUNDERY SHOWERS IN IZMIR

Also touching on the rainfall expected in Ankara and Izmir, Macit said, “In Ankara, heavy rainfall begins on Friday, especially after the evening hours. On Saturday, heavy rainfall continues locally. Let us also warn Ankara residents against floods and flash floods. We do not expect rainfall in Ankara starting from the beginning of the week either.”

Macit stated that rainfall is expected in Izmir only on Saturday, that the rainfall will manifest as thunderstorms but will not be heavy.

STRONG STORM WARNING IN WESTERN BLACK SEA AND WESTERN MEDITERRANEAN

Pointing out that strong winds are expected in addition to rainfall, Abdullah Macit stated that winds from the south, reaching storm strength at times, will be effective in the Western Mediterranean, especially the northern parts of the Eastern Mediterranean and the north and east of Central Anatolia, while winds from the north will be effective in the Western Black Sea.

Macit said, “On this matter, let us especially warn our seafarers in the Western Black Sea and Western Mediterranean; we expect a strong storm, and they need to be careful about this.”

Macit, who also made a statement regarding air temperature, gave the information: “In the first days of next week, we expect temperatures below seasonal norms, especially in the western parts. In the eastern parts, they will be around seasonal norms.”
