The incident took place in a summer site in the Tömük neighborhood of Erdemli, Mersin. According to allegations, Sezer Soner Aktaş, a 32-year-old resident of the site who was allegedly drinking alcohol by the pool in the evening, got into an argument with the 35-year-old security guard, Ali Aşkın K., when he was warned not to drink alcohol by the pool. The argument was calmed down with the intervention of other residents.

However, an argument broke out again between Sezer Soner Aktaş and the site security guard around 22:00 on the same day regarding the same issue. During the argument at the entrance gate of the site, the security guard, who couldn't control his anger, stabbed Aktaş, causing severe injuries.
