Senior Chinese, US Officials Hold 'Candid' Talks On Economy, Trade

Chinese Vice Premier Liu He spoke with US Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen via video call early Tuesday to discuss economic and trade issues.

According to a statement by China's State Council, the conversation was a "practical, candid, and constructive exchange on macroeconomic situation, and bilateral and multilateral cooperation."

The two sides agreed to strengthen macro-policy communication and coordination as the world economic recovery is at a critical juncture.

China expressed concern over US tariffs and sanctions and Washington's treatment of Chinese enterprises.

Separately, the Department of US Treasury said both sides stressed the importance of macroeconomic and financial developments in China and the US for the global economy.

"Secretary Yellen also frankly raised issues of concern," the Treasury statement said. -
