Serbian Court Jails Ex-Soldier Over Bosnia War Crimes

13.11.2018 18:13

Milanko Devic to serve 7 years in prison for shooting civilians during Bosnian War.

Former Serb soldier Milanko Devic was sentenced to seven years in prison over war crimes during the Bosnian War.

Devic was found guilty of committing war crimes against Bosniak civilians on July 1992 in the Bosnian city of Kljuc.

According to the Belgrade Supreme Court in the Serbian capital, Devic -- a member of the Republika Srpska Army (VRS) -- together with Bogdan Sabota and another Serb soldier removed Bosniak civilian Ismet Sljivar from his house at gunpoint.

The court said that Devic along with his two soldiers shot Sljivar and threw the victim's body to the Sanica River.

The prosecutor had demanded 9 years in prison for Devic.

Meanwhile, the Canton Court in Bihac in Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Sabota, who was held responsible for the killing of Sljivar, to eight months during a trial last year. However, Sabota's sentence was reduced to six months after an appeal was filed. -
