At least 12 suspected Taliban and seven soldiers were killed in a Pakistan's restive North Waziristan tribal region on Sunday, officials said.
Fierce fighting between the Taliban and security forces in Datta Khel, a town near the Afghanistan border, left 12 suspected militants and four troops dead, the army's media wing said in a statement.
Another three soldiers died and six were injured when a remote control bomb was set off around an hour before the battle erupted.
North Waziristan is one of Pakistan's seven semi-autonomous tribal regions and has seen resistance to an army operation launched just over a year ago to tackle the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
According to the army's figures, around 2,800 militants and more than 100 soldiers have been killed in the operation. The figures cannot be verified due to a ban on independent journalists in the region. - Lahor
