Several Killed, İnjured İn S. Yemen Drone Strike

Several people were killed and others injured on Monday in a suspected U.S. drone strike in Yemen's southern province of Shabwah, according to eyewitnesses.



Casualties of the strike are believed to have belonged to Al-Qaeda militant group, the witnesses told The Anadolu Agency.



According to the witnesses, a drone strike targeted a car carrying several individuals suspected to have links to Al-Qaeda, leaving several of them dead and others injured.



Neither Yemeni nor American authorities have issued an official comment on the alleged drone strike.



According to rights groups, dozens of suspected Al-Qaeda operatives – along with a number of civilians – have been killed by U.S. drone strikes in recent months.



According to the government, Al-Qaeda remains active in several parts of the country's south, from which it stages sporadic attacks on army and police personnel.



Yemen has been dogged by turmoil since pro-democracy protests forced autocratic President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down in 2012 after 33 years in power.
