At least four people have died and 18 others have been injured in a horrific mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama. Police have launched a large-scale operation to search for multiple armed suspects believed to be responsible for the attack. Birmingham police officer Truman Fitzgerald stated, "Multiple attackers opened fire on a group of people." On Saturday evening, two men and one woman were found dead by the roadside. A fourth man later died in the hospital from severe gunshot wounds. Police believe one of the deceased was the primary target of the attack, while the others were caught in crossfire. Gunfire was first heard shortly after 11:00 PM in the Five Points South entertainment district, outside the popular Hush hookah and cigar lounge. Some of the 18 injured individuals are reported to still be in critical condition. Witness Dajon Singleton reported hearing screams and cries along the street. 22-year-old Geoffrey Boshell recounted hearing the terrifying sound of rapid gunfire from his window and seeing people screaming and fleeing the scene. Police are still investigating whether the attackers fired while walking or from a vehicle. They believe the attack was "not random and stemmed from an isolated incident." Over 100 shell casings were found in the area. No arrests have been made yet. Police suspect that the weapon used was a Glock switch pistol capable of alternating between automatic and semi-automatic fire.
