Singer Seçil Çiftçi, who killed her boyfriend and dumped him in the forest, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with aggravated circumstances.

In the trial where Seçil Çiftçi, who is claimed to be the former girlfriend of Semih Sevim, who was found dead with his hands and feet tied with pantyhose in Istanbul Sancaktepe, and her father Cemal Çiftçi, who is accused of leaving the body together in a wooded area, were tried, a verdict was reached. The trial, in which the arrested defendant Seçil Çiftçi, the defendant Cemal Çiftçi, the deceased Semih Sevim's plaintiff family, and the lawyers of the parties were present, was held at Istanbul 19th Heavy Penal Court.

"IF MY BROTHER WERE ALIVE, HE COULD TELL WHAT HE SUFFERED FROM SEÇİL"

Speaking at the trial, Semih Sevim's sister Sevgi Aslan stated that they wanted the defendant to be punished severely and said, "I wish my brother were alive now so that he could tell what he suffered from Seçil."

"I AM NOT A PERSON WHO IS CAPABLE OF KILLING SOMEONE"

Çiftçi, who stated in his defense that he had previously had a meeting based on interest with Semih Sevim, said, "I told him many times not to meet with me and to go his own way. He made false accusations against me. I'm not defending that what I did was right, but Semih didn't leave me alone. I am not a person who is capable of killing someone. I demand my acquittal and release," he said.

"SEÇİL IS MY CHILD, ANY FATHER WOULD DO THE SAME"

Defendant Cemal Çiftçi, who stated in his defense that he did not accept the accusations against him, said, "I have never seen Semih Sevim face to face. He called me and insulted me on the phone. I am retired from the governorship. I do not accept the accusations of premeditated murder. If I were to plan, I would do it with my two sons. I didn't dig a place and bury the victim. I left him in a place close to the picnic area. Defendant Seçil is my child, any father would do the same thing," he said. The plaintiff's lawyer who made a statement at the trial requested that he be punished without applying the provisions of unjust provocation. The defense lawyer stated that the incident did not happen by planning, that the victim Semih Sevim bothered Çiftçi, that Çiftçi acted to protect himself, and requested his release and acquittal.

"IF THE OTHER PARTY HAD TAKEN CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN, THIS WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED"

When asked for the final words, the defendant Seçil Çiftçi said, "I deny everything the other party said, I regret it, I respect the other party's pain, but I also expect a little empathy from them." Defendant Cemal Çiftçi, in his final words, said, "If the other party had taken care of their children, this wouldn't have happened, I have no connection to the incident, I request my acquittal."

AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The court, in its decision, sentenced the defendant Seçil Çiftçi to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "premeditated intentional killing" and ruled for the continuation of her detention. The court sentenced the defendant Cemal Çiftçi to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "premeditated intentional killing" and, taking into account his attitude and behavior, commuted this sentence to life imprisonment. In addition, it was decided that the defendant Cemal Çiftçi should be arrested during the trial due to the amount of the sentence he received and the suspicion of escape.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that an investigation was initiated upon the finding of a person dead near Sancaktepe Sazak Çeşme Recreation Area on January 1, 2023, and it was determined that the deceased person was Semih Sevim (40), who was reported missing before. The indictment included the statement of Sevim's sister Sebile Selvitopu, who testified as a plaintiff, stating that her brother Semih Sevim went from Tokat to Istanbul on December 22, 2022, for his trial regarding the mutual allegations of threats with Seçil Çiftçi, and that her brother said they had known each other for about 5-6 years since they were from Tokat.

The indictment also included an examination of the correspondence submitted to the file, stating that messages such as "Your death is in my hands, I will have you shot, I will share that your head is cut off. I would like to emphasize that I have been subjected to threats from this person for about 5 years, he always threatened me and my family. I'm tired of these threats, my father is like a father, my mother is like a mother. I will kill you and I will serve the punishment, I will have you shot," were sent to the deceased Semih Sevim by Seçil Çiftçi.

In the prepared indictment, it was requested that the suspects Cemal Çiftçi and Seçil Çiftçi be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment separately for the crime of "premeditated intentional killing".
