Transportation was disrupted due to snowfall that was effective on the last day of May in Artvin. After the precipitation started in the morning, the Macahel Pass, located at an altitude of 1850 meters, was covered in white. While 6 village roads were closed to traffic, stranded citizens were rescued.
In the Macahel region, connected to the Borçka district of Artvin, access to the villages of Camili, Düzenli, Efeler, Kayalar, Maral, and Uğur was temporarily closed due to the heavy snowfall that was effective yesterday.
10 CENTIMETERS OF SNOW FELL
After the roads were closed, highway teams were dispatched to the region and started snow clearing and road opening work with construction equipment. In the region, where winter landscapes have reappeared in the last days of the spring season, snow depth reached 10 centimeters in places.
THOSE STRANDED WERE RESCUED
The precipitation, which was effective especially in areas above 1500 meters altitude throughout Artvin, covered high-altitude areas with a white blanket. Snow-fighting teams reached citizens stranded on the road and ensured their evacuation to safe zones. It was stated that the teams are continuing their work non-stop to reopen the road for traffic. Nasır Önder, the President of the Camili Village Union, stated that the snowfall is expected to continue throughout the day and warned drivers not to set out unless necessary, and to carry chains in their vehicles if unavoidable.
