"Strict regulation of Bitcoin mining in Russia"

20.11.2024 15:21

The Russian government is introducing comprehensive regulations for the Bitcoin mining sector. A commission led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak is planning Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining bans in seven regions, including the occupied areas of Ukraine and the North Caucasus. The regulation will be in effect from December 2024 to March 2031.

Under the new laws signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin this month, the cryptocurrency mining sector is coming under strict regulation. The restrictions aim to optimize energy consumption, especially during the winter period.

Winter Measures for Cryptocurrency Mining in Russia

The Russian government has initiated new regulations to register the cryptocurrency mining sector and control energy consumption. The restrictions to be implemented in the Zabaikalsky region of Siberia will be repeated every winter season.

According to local news sources, a monthly power consumption limit of 6,000 kWh has been set for unregistered individual miners. Those who exceed this limit will be required to register as individual entrepreneurs to continue their activities.

The Russian government is also making changes to the bill regarding the taxation of cryptocurrency transactions and mining revenues. These regulations are considered part of Russia's strategy to control its cryptocurrency ecosystem.
