Workers from İZENERJİ, İZELMAN, and Ege City Planning, which are companies of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, gathered at the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Service Building to announce their decision to strike on May 28 due to their salaries being deposited as only 20,000 TL and the deadlock in Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations.
Workers from İZENERJİ, İZELMAN, and Ege City Planning, which are companies of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, gathered at the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Service Building due to their salaries being deposited as only 20,000 TL and the deadlock in collective bargaining negotiations. The workers hung the strike announcement decision on the municipality building within Kültürpark.
Speaking on behalf of DİSK/Genel-İş İzmir Branches 1, 2, 3, and 9, Branch President Serap Yılmaz stated, "We officially announce to the public that if our demands are not met in the collective bargaining negotiations, we will start the strike implementation by hanging our strike banners on the municipality buildings as of 00:00 on May 28, 2025."
"WE CALL ON THEM TO FULFILL THEIR PROMISES"
Yılmaz stated that it was promised multiple times during meetings with the employer that this process would be resolved, saying, "Last month, during a meeting between İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Ramazan Tezcan and the four branch presidents affiliated with Genel-İş, it was stated by Ramazan Tezcan, who is the representative of the employer, that the social security and tax debts have been resolved and that there would be no disruptions in salary payments from now on. After this was declared once again by Secretary General Ramazan Tezcan to the four branch presidents, the mayor promised that there would be no issues with salary payments in the coming months. We emphasize once again that those who manage the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality have no right to subject the Genel-İş Union and tens of thousands of union members to this grievance. We call on them to fulfill their promises and to explain how this grievance will be resolved in the short term," she said.
"STRIKE IS OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT"
Yılmaz, stating that thousands of workers are waiting for a solution under insecurity, said, "Unfortunately, our patience and prudent stance have not been reciprocated until today. We have moved the strike announcement date, which we previously declared as May 9, to May 7 due to the difficulties experienced in salary payments. This decision is our constitutional right."
