The Minimum Wage Determination Commission is starting its work to establish a new minimum wage that directly concerns 7 million workers and indirectly affects the general public. The commission will hold its first meeting in the first week of December and will begin negotiations in the range of 25,000 to 28,000 TL. On the other hand, the request from the workers' side to change the structure of the commission has also been taken into account. Accordingly, the government will not participate in the negotiation phase, leaving the workers and employers to negotiate directly with each other.
The countdown continues for the determination of the new minimum wage, which directly concerns approximately 7 million employees and indirectly affects the general public. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its first meeting in the first week of December.
The government will bring together representatives of workers and employers in the "Minimum Wage Determination Commission," which will start its work under the auspices of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan emphasized in his evaluation of the process that the minimum wage is an indicator representing the most basic wage level in working life. Minister Işıkhan stated, "Our primary priority is for the parties to reach a consensus through social dialogue with common sense."
BARGAINING BETWEEN 25-28 THOUSAND
According to a report by Önder Yılmaz from Sabah newspaper, the discussions of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will begin next week. The bargaining is expected to take place in the range of 25,000–28,000 TL.
WORKERS AND EMPLOYERS WILL BE LEFT FACE TO FACE IN MINIMUM WAGE BARGAINING
In response to the workers' request to change the commission structure, the government developed a "passivation formula" without changing the legislation. Accordingly, representatives from the Treasury, Finance, Labor, and Trade Ministries, as well as TÜİK, will not play an active role in the bargaining; they will only provide technical data. Worker and employer representatives will be left face to face in the wage negotiation, and this model will be presented in the first meeting.
NEW MINIMUM WAGE TO BE ANNOUNCED BY DECEMBER 31
The commission is expected to hold 4 meetings before making its final decision. The commission makes its decisions by a majority vote. The new minimum wage figure is aimed to be determined and shared with the public by December 31. The new wage to be determined will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 members, with five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government, as required by law.
The commission meets on the dates set in December as part of its work to determine the new minimum wage.
The commission, chaired by one of the members designated by the ministry, convenes with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote.
In the event of a tie, the majority is considered to be on the side of the president.
CURRENT MINIMUM WAGE NET 22 THOUSAND 104 LIRA
The minimum wage is currently applied as a gross monthly wage of 26,005.50 TL for a worker, and after deductions, the net amount is 22,104.67 TL.
The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer is 30,556.46 TL for one worker. Of this, 26,005.50 TL is the gross minimum wage, 4,030.85 TL is the social security premium, and 520.11 TL is the employer's unemployment insurance fund.
