Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who came to prominence with allegations of an investigation into her citizenship and immigration history in the US, days later asked her supporters for money in a video she released. Omar, who claimed that the Trump administration was trying to silence her, called for donations of $5, $10, and $20. While the possibility of revoking Omar's citizenship and deporting her was being discussed, Omar rejected the accusations against her and argued that the investigation was being carried out for political purposes.
Democratic Party Representative Ilhan Omar, at the center of an investigation into citizenship and immigration documents in the U.S., returned to the agenda with a video she published after days of silence. Omar, whose home was searched by federal agents and whose personal belongings were seized, asked her supporters for donations and announced that she would continue her struggle against the Donald Trump administration.
SHE SHARED A VIDEO FROM A CAR AND ASKED FOR DONATIONS
Ilhan Omar, the U.S. Representative from Minnesota, published a video of about one minute on her social media account while the investigation against her continues.
In the video, filmed in the back seat of a vehicle, Omar thanked those who supported her and claimed that before the upcoming midterm elections, the Trump administration was trying to intimidate her and other figures.
Omar stated that she would continue her political struggle with the contributions of her supporters, using the words, "They will not be able to intimidate us, silence us, or frighten us."
"YOU CAN SEND 5, 10, OR 20 DOLLARS"
The Democratic politician said that the upcoming period would be difficult both financially and in terms of political struggle.
Asking her supporters to continue their donations, Omar said, "It will be a very costly and difficult period. Therefore, we are grateful to everyone who can send 5, 10, or 20 dollars."
Omar stated that she would participate in campaign efforts for the Democrats to win the majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the midterm elections.
A SEARCH WAS CONDUCTED AT HER HOME; HER PHONE AND PASSPORT WERE SEIZED
Ilhan Omar's donation call came at a time when the immigration investigation being conducted in the U.S. was expanding.
Federal officials conducted a search at her home in Washington on October 12 with a court order. It was reported that within the scope of the investigation, Omar's cell phone, computers, notebooks, and passport were seized.
It was stated that authorities were investigating whether there had been any irregularities in the documents Omar and her family submitted when they immigrated to the U.S. in the past.
It was reported that within the scope of the investigation, subpoenas were also issued for some of Omar's relatives and that statements were taken from members of her family.
CANCELLATION OF HER CITIZENSHIP AND DEPORTATION ARE ON THE AGENDA
Whether Somalia-born Ilhan Omar gave false information during the process of obtaining U.S. citizenship has come to the fore as one of the main topics of the investigation.
According to reports in the U.S. press, the investigation is focusing on Omar's date of birth and the documents her father submitted during his citizenship procedures.
If the allegations are proven and the necessary legal processes are completed, the possibility of Omar's citizenship being revoked and her deportation to Somalia could come up. However, there is no finalized court ruling to that effect regarding Omar.
SHE REJECTED THE ACCUSATIONS: A POLITICAL INTIMIDATION CAMPAIGN
Ilhan Omar, who has repeatedly rejected the allegations against her, argued that she obtained U.S. citizenship in accordance with the law. Omar, who claimed that the Trump administration was conducting the investigation for political purposes, stated that she was especially targeted before the midterm elections.
Omar's lawyers also objected to the legality of the search conducted at her home and requested the return of the seized items. The Department of Justice, on the other hand, argued that the search was carried out in accordance with the court order.
NO CRIMINAL ELEMENTS WERE FOUND IN THE EARLIER REVIEW
Meanwhile, it emerged that Omar's immigration history had also been examined during Trump's first presidential term.
According to a Washington Post report, in the review conducted in 2019, no evidence was found that Omar had committed irregularities in her citizenship procedures, and the process was concluded.
The investigation, restarted in 2026, became the center of political debates in the U.S. ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. Omar's reappearance before the public with a donation call was interpreted as a message that she would continue her political activities while the investigation against her continues.
