The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Agency (UKMTO) has reported that an oil tanker off the coast of Oman was subjected to a suspicious attack.
Tensions between the US and Iran continue to cause security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement from UKMTO, it was reported that an oil tanker was subjected to a suspicious attack approximately 16.6 kilometers northeast of Oman's Ash Shihr region.
SHIP SUFFERED HEAVY DAMAGE
In the statement, it was conveyed that the foreign object that struck the ship caused severe damage to the engine room and caused the tanker to lose its maneuverability, stating, "The crew has been reported as safe. There is no definitive information yet regarding potential environmental impacts." Ships in the area were called upon to proceed with caution and report suspicious situations to UKMTO. It was noted that a detailed investigation into the incident has been initiated.
