Syrian Opposition Figure Barred From Entering Egypt

30.10.2014 12:20

Egyptian authorities have barred a Syrian opposition leader from entering the country and sent him back to Turkey, airport sources said Thursday.

Egyptian authorities have barred a Syrian opposition leader from entering the country and sent him back to Turkey, airport sources said Thursday.

Khalid al-Nasser, a member of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, was denied entry to Egypt for "security reasons" and sent back to Turkey, sources at Cairo International Airport said.

Al-Nasser had arrived in Cairo from Turkey along with coalition chairman Hadi al-Bahra and fellow coalition member Salah Darwish, both of whom were allowed into the country.

Al-Bahra is scheduled to hold talks in Cairo with Egyptian officials and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi on the ongoing conflict in Syria.

Syria has been ravaged by a deadly civil war since 2011, when the regime of President Bashar al-Assad violently cracked down on anti-government demonstrations.

More than 191,000 people have been killed in the conflict to date, according to the U.N.
