Iran's Hamshahri newspaper, affiliated with Tehran Municipality, made headlines with a cover depicting U.S. President Donald Trump in the crosshairs of a sniper scope. The cover, featuring the headline "Revenge is certain," also included statements attributed to Iran's religious leader Mojtaba Khamenei and remarks from clerics calling for retaliation against the U.S. and Israel.

Hamshahri newspaper, one of Iran's highest-circulation newspapers affiliated with the Tehran Municipality, became the focus of international public opinion with its published front page. The cover featured a photo of US President Donald Trump in the crosshairs of a sniper scope.

Above the image showing Trump as a target, the phrase "Revenge is certain" was written in large font, while the subtitle read "War criminals must be confronted." The newspaper stated that these words belong to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

CALL FOR RETALIATION FROM SENIOR CLERICS

In the same issue of Hamshahri, statements from numerous senior clerics calling for retaliation due to the killing of high-ranking Iranian figures in joint US-Israeli military operations were also included. The newspaper presented these statements to its readers with an emphasis on "the need to hold war criminals accountable."

TENSIONS ESCALATE AGAIN

The cover was published against the backdrop of rising tensions between the US and Iran in recent months. The Iranian administration had repeatedly issued messages of revenge after the deaths of the country's top officials in joint US-Israeli operations. With the new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, taking office, Tehran's rhetoric is assessed to have shifted toward a more hardline stance.

HAMSHAHRI IS ONE OF IRAN'S MOST INFLUENTIAL NEWSPAPERS

Founded in 1992, Hamshahri newspaper is published by the Tehran Municipality and is listed among Iran's newspapers with the largest readership. The newspaper, which has close ties with state institutions, is sometimes considered a reflection of the political messages conveyed by the Iranian administration to the public.
