A small plane crashed in a tourist town in Brazil. All 10 passengers on board were killed in the accident, while more than a dozen people on the ground were injured. According to the Brazilian Civil Defense Agency, the plane crashed into a densely populated area and hit several buildings. The agency reported in a post on the X platform that the plane first struck the chimney of a house, then hit the second floor of a building, and finally crashed into a cell phone store in a neighborhood of Gramado that is largely residential. More than fifteen people on the ground were hospitalized due to various injuries, including smoke inhalation, with two of them reported to be in critical condition. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, but local media reported that the plane was piloted by Brazilian businessman Luiz Claudio Galeazzi, who was traveling with his family to the state of Sao Paulo. Galeazzi's company, Galeazzi & Associados, confirmed in a statement posted on LinkedIn that the 61-year-old businessman was on the plane and added that he was traveling with his wife, three daughters, other family members, and a company employee who lost their life in the accident. The statement included, "In this moment of intense pain, we are deeply grateful for the expressions of solidarity and love we have received from our friends, colleagues, and the community. We also want to express that we stand in solidarity with everyone affected by this accident." Security cameras recorded the small Piper aircraft taking off from Canela airport in the state of Rio Grande do Sul just minutes before crashing into Gramado. Gramado is located about 10 km from the airport. Gramado is situated in the Serra Gaucha mountains and attracts Brazilian tourists with its cool climate, hiking areas, and traditional architecture. The town, which saw a large influx of German and Italian immigrants in the 19th century, is known as a popular destination for Christmas holidays.
