18.03.2019 11:50

Andreescu becomes first ever wild card to win the BNP Paribas Open in women's tennis.

Eighteen-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu upset three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber to claim women's title in the BNP Paribas Open.

The 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win at the Indian Wells in California, U.S. on Sunday moved Andreescu up to 24th spot from 178th place in the world ranking.

Andreescu became the first-ever wild card to win the BNP Paribas Open and, at 18 years old, the youngest player since Serena Williams defeated Steffi Graf back in 1999, BNP Paribas Open said.

"It's incredible to have my name beside so many incredible champions," said Andreescu. "It's a dream come true." -
