Thailand: 2 Dead, 2 Missing After Speedboat Capsizes

Thai police confirmed Friday that two tourists remain missing after a fatal speedboat accident off the resort island of Koh Samui.



Lieutenant Sanon Yongkit of Samui Police told Anadolu Agency that the speedboat, which had been carrying 32 tourists and four crew, overturned and capsized late Thursday afternoon after it was hit by a "rogue" wave.



"We have safely recovered 28 tourists. We have four [of them] still in hospital," he said by phone.



Two tourists, a Hong Kong man and a British man, are still missing and unaccounted for after the incident.



According to Sanon, two tourists -- a German woman and a British woman -- died at the scene.



There are regular tours between Koh Samui and Ang Thong National Park, a marine recreational area in the Gulf of Thailand from where the speedboat was returning.



Tourists charter speedboats for day trips from Koh Samui to Ang Thong for a variety of activities including snorkeling and scuba diving. -
