Years later, it emerged that the headless female body found in Şişli in 2001 and the severed head that surfaced in Bakırköy days later belonged to the same person. In the case reopened in 2014, DNA matching identified the victim as Tazegül Dadaşova. During the investigation, her ex-boyfriend M.S. was detained and arrested, thus solving the 13-year-old murder.

In 2001, a headless female body was found in Şişli, Istanbul. Four days later, a severed head appeared on the Bakırköy coast. Due to the technical inadequacies of the time, no connection could be established between the two incidents, and the case file was shelved unresolved for many years.

COLD CASE REOPENED, TRUTH REVEALED

With the restructuring of the Missing Persons Bureau in 2014, previously unresolved files began to be re-examined. Within this scope, Eşref Şahin and his team took up the case of Tazegül Dadaşova, an Azerbaijani national who disappeared on April 21, 2001.

DNA MATCH REVEALED THE TRUTH

Detailed examinations determined that the severed head found in Bakırköy and the body found in Şişli belonged to the same person. The truth was confirmed through DNA analysis, identifying the individual as Tazegül Dadaşova.

LAST PERSON SHE MET: HER EX-BOYFRIEND

Deepening the investigation, teams examined phone records and cell tower data. According to the information obtained, it was revealed that Dadaşova had contacted her ex-boyfriend M.S. exactly eight times on the day she disappeared. Her signal was determined to have been cut off near her home in Şişli. It was also noteworthy that Dadaşova's lifeless body was found just two streets away from her home.

CAUGHT WITH THE "BROKEN FAUCET" TRAP

Suspect M.S., working as a plumber in the Gemlik district of Bursa, was called by the police under the pretense of a "broken faucet." Upon arriving at the scene, M.S. was taken into custody.

EXERCISED RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT, ARRESTED

The suspect, who exercised his right to remain silent at the police station, was arrested by the court. Thus, the 13-year-old unsolved headless female murder was solved thanks to the reopened case file and advancing technology.
