An important change regarding vehicle sales is coming into effect. Akın Duman, a member of the sector council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, announced that it has now become mandatory to obtain a traffic insurance policy when purchasing a vehicle. He pointed out that under the old regulation, new vehicle owners could obtain a policy within 15 days, but this practice has been canceled.

The 15-day validity period in the traffic policy for vehicle sales is coming to an end. Akın Duman, a member of the sector council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, warned vehicle owners that the ability to obtain a policy within 15 days after purchasing a vehicle has been eliminated for policyholders.

Duman stated, "According to the Constitutional Court's decision text, policyholders are required to obtain their traffic policies on the day the vehicle sale is made. In the Official Gazette dated March 5, 2024, and numbered 32480, it is stated that the third and fourth paragraphs of Article 94 of the Highway Traffic Law dated October 13, 1983, are unconstitutional and have been annulled; it has been decided that the ruling will come into effect nine months after its publication in the Official Gazette (as of December 5, 2024). With the relevant decision, the following articles have been repealed," he said.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE 15-DAY PERIOD!

Duman listed the repealed articles as follows: "In the event of a change in the operator of the insured vehicle, the transferring person is obliged to inform the insurer of the situation within 15 days. The insurer may terminate the insurance contract within fifteen days from the date the situation is notified to him. It is valid until fifteen days after the termination date of the insurance."
