The Law Proposal Amending the Animal Protection Law has been submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Abdullah Güler, the AK Party Group Deputy Chairman, explained the details of the 17-article proposal as follows;
"Opinions and expectations were taken into account. It was compiled into a report and presented to our President. Our draft law has matured. Our 17-article draft law will be completed in the agricultural committee and then in the general assembly.
There is a contract regarding pets that has been approved in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. There are many incidents and decisions that have been legally regulated. Our law includes practices such as taking care of stray animals in shelters, neutering them, vaccinating them, and releasing them back to the streets. According to our reports from the past 20 years, approximately 2.5 million stray dogs have been neutered and around 550 thousand stray dogs have been adopted. Despite the existing measures, we see that our local authorities are insufficient. This situation has led to an increase in rabies risk cases."
