A Playboy model who appeared on the "The Bachelor" program in Russia passed away while waiting for a lung transplant after years of suffering from the aftermath of a car accident.
31-year-old Veronika Muraşkina from the city of Toguçin, Russia, was hit by a drunk driver in 2020, severely injuring her leg, which left her bedridden.
While on bed rest, she contracted a life-threatening lung disease and was placed on the emergency transplant list, but Veronika passed away on October 18, just days before her surgery was scheduled.
Veronika became famous when she participated in the fifth season of the Russian version of "The Bachelor" in 2017, where she competed for the heart of popular actor Ilya Glinnikov.
She lived in Moscow, the capital of Russia, where she studied economics and later built a modeling career.
In 2017, Veronika's photo appeared in an issue of Playboy magazine. She was photographed wearing yellow bunny ears and featured with a note about past Playboy-themed parties in the magazine's pages.
However, her glamorous life came to an end in the summer of 2020 when she was involved in a horrific car accident.
She had gone back to her hometown of Toguçin to visit her mother and grandmother.
One evening in August, she went for a walk on the street with childhood friends she hadn't seen in a long time.
Suddenly, a car driven by a drunk classmate crashed into the parking lot where the group was hanging out.
Veronika took the brunt of the impact and was severely injured. Doctors did everything they could to save her leg for years, and she underwent a very long rehabilitation process.
She had to give up her modeling career and instead spent her time engaging in crafts.
A friend told local media: "Her leg was literally pieced back together after the serious accident. She underwent treatment for a long time, stayed in clinics, and healed."
"It seemed like her problems were finally behind her, but when the lung disease hit her, a new issue arose."
It was reported that as a result of Veronika being bedridden for a long time, her immune system weakened, and she contracted a disease that was serious enough to require a lung transplant.
