27.10.2024 16:10

The feud between the Yıldız and Şenyaşar families, which began six years ago during election campaigns in Şanlıurfa and resulted in the deaths of four people, came to an end with a peace dinner attended by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, members of the AK Party, and DEM Party, among other guests.

In the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa, a case that began in 2018 with the attack by the bodyguards and relatives of the then AK Party Member of Parliament İbrahim Halil Yıldız during his election campaign on a shop belonging to the Şenyaşar family resulted in the deaths of 3 members of the Şenyaşar family and 1 member of the Yıldız family. Four detainees were released in relation to the case. Following the releases, discussions facilitated by politicians for reconciliation between the two families yielded results. The process, which began at the request of both families, continued today with a 'peace ceremony'.

'THE STATE BECAME A MEDIATOR'

A peace dinner organized to end the feud that has lasted for 6 years was held in Şanlıurfa. The dinner was attended by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Bekir Bozdağ, former Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, and AK Party members of parliament from Şanlıurfa. Representing the DEM Party, Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Ahmet Türk, and Şanlıurfa members of parliament were also present.

"OUR CIVILIZATION IS A CIVILIZATION OF PEACE AND BROTHERHOOD"

In the speech made before the meal, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, who took the floor first, said, "We have come together for a very beneficial purpose to prevent greater pains with a shared responsibility and to end the feud between the families. No matter how great the pains are, they should not be inherited by future generations. Two families that have experienced pain have come together to end their feud with greatness. Our civilization is a civilization of peace and brotherhood. Today, the two families are breaking idols just as Hazrat Ibrahim did. Making peace is undoubtedly very important, and reconciling is very valuable, but maintaining peace is just as crucial. I believe that this peace will be a lasting peace. This peace is extremely meaningful not only for the two families but also for the tranquility and unity of society," he said. After his speech, Yılmaz invited İbrahim Halil Yıldız, a member of the AK Party's Central Decision and Executive Board, and DEM Party Şanlıurfa Member of Parliament Ferit Şenyaşar to the stage for a 'handshake'.

"THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR PEACE FALLS ON THOSE WHO MAKE PEACE"

Ahmet Türk from the DEM Party, who spoke next, stated, "We thank both of our families very much. We thank our Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Bekir Bozdağ, who played a significant role in achieving this peace. The responsibility for peace falls on those who make peace; our families should act with this awareness. Once again, congratulations. We wish for this peace to last a lifetime."

Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Bekir Bozdağ said, "First of all, congratulations. Of course, peace is very valuable. I am sure that the two families who made peace will succeed in sustaining it and passing it on to future generations." The program concluded with prayers and the 'peace dinner' that followed.
