While millions of minimum wage earners and retirees are focused on the upcoming salary increase, the behind-the-scenes discussions are more active than ever. As predictions about the amount of the lowest pension continue to come in, sources from the AK Party have estimated that the figure could be raised to 14,200 Turkish Lira.

While millions of workers are focused on the upcoming minimum wage increase, the figure will be clarified next week. In addition to the minimum wage figure for 2025, it is stated that the employer support for the minimum wage, which is currently 700 TL, will also increase this year.

Since the duration of the support provided by the state for the minimum wage will end at the end of the month, an increase in the support amount will be made after the new minimum wage figure is determined, and a law regarding this issue will be enacted.

THE FIGURE IS EXPECTED TO EXCEED 50 BILLION LIRA

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan stated in his remarks during the budget discussions last week that 38 billion lira in minimum wage support was provided to 1.5 million workplaces in the first nine months of 2024. This figure is expected to exceed 50 billion lira by the end of the year.

AK PARTY SOURCES GAVE A FIGURE

In the AK Party circles, predictions are also being made about how much the lowest pension will be. AK Party sources, indicating that the increase in the lowest pension will be influenced by the increase in the minimum wage, estimated that the lowest pension could be raised to 14,200 lira.

According to a report in Türkiye newspaper, AK Party sources stated, "After the increase in the minimum wage and the pension increase rate is determined on January 3, a new figure will also be set for the lowest pension. Considering the current budget possibilities, we estimate that the lowest pension could be between 13,500 and 14,200 lira. How many people will be affected, what is the cost to the budget? These studies will be conducted after the New Year."
