The mother of university student Fırat Baraj (23), who was killed in Mardin on December 22, 2025, Nazan Öztap, claimed that the suspects were taken out of hiding about 1 hour after the incident dressed in women's clothing and veils, and were then smuggled abroad. Öztap said, "On the night my son was shot, 1 hour after the incident, they flee from their own uncles' house dressed as women. There are images, there are camera records." New security camera footage related to the incident has also been added to the case file.
THEY SHOT THEIR COUSINS IN AN INHERITANCE DISPUTE The incident occurred in the Artuklu district on December 22, 2025. According to the allegations, when Fırat Baraj, a student at Istanbul 29 Mayıs University Faculty of Law, arrived in Mardin from Istanbul, his cousins called him to Ravza Street to talk about the inheritance dispute. The argument between the parties escalated into an armed fight. In the fight, Fırat Baraj was seriously wounded by a bullet fired from a pistol.
LAW STUDENT FIRAT DIED IN THE HOSPITAL Upon the report, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. After the intervention of health teams, Baraj was taken to Mardin Training and Research Hospital. Baraj, who was taken into treatment, lost his life. Fırat Baraj's body was buried after the autopsy procedures. Efforts were initiated to capture the fleeing suspects.
"LET FIRAT'S BLOOD NOT REMAIN ON THE GROUND" Fırat Baraj's mother, Nazan Öztap, said that the security camera footage, in which she claims the suspects were smuggled away by their relatives wearing women's clothing and veils, was added to the case file.
Öztap, who wants the suspects she says fled abroad to be captured and given the necessary punishment, said, "The murderers of my son have still not been found. We have left no door unknocked, no one has been spared. I am calling out to justice. On the night my son was shot, 1 hour after the incident, they flee from their own uncles' house dressed as women. There are images, there are camera records. Please hear my voice now, I am very tired. Let Fırat's blood not remain on the ground. I beg you, hear my scream. There are camera records on the next street down with all family members. There are those fleeing; they came out dressed in women's clothing and veils. How they got out of there 1 hour later is a mystery. I am filing complaints against the whole family behind it. I also made a request to search with a red notice. The fact that nothing has come out so far hurts me very seriously. So that Fırat's blood does not remain on the ground, I take refuge in my state, I take refuge in my God, I say divine justice," she said.
