The family of a 5-day-old baby with a burned arm has filed a complaint. The baby was admitted to a special hospital in Adıyaman, where her arm was burned in an incubator. Mizgin Tatar, who gave birth via cesarean section at Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital, delivered a baby girl. After birth, the baby was found to have low blood sugar and was transferred to a private hospital in the city due to a lack of available incubators in the hospital. The baby, placed in an incubator at the private hospital, reportedly had her arm come into contact with the heating metal of the incubator during care on the fifth day of treatment, according to claims. A burn occurred on the baby's arm after it touched the heating metal. Health personnel, who noticed the situation during care, intervened on the baby's arm. Approximately 48 hours after the incident, the hospital management informed the baby's family. THE FAMILY FILED A COMPLAINTThe Tatar family, reacting to the situation, filed a complaint against the hospital management. After the treatments, Mizgin and Şahin Tatar received their baby with a bandaged arm and returned home, demanding that everyone responsible be punished. Dr. Mehmet Gürbak, the Pediatric Health Specialist and Head of the Neonatal Unit at the hospital, stated that the incident was entirely an accident, saying, "We started the treatments for the baby who was sent to us and adjusted the temperature values in the incubator, informing the family that the treatment would take about a week. There were no issues from the first day to the fifth day, and the baby's treatment was going very well with improvements. On the fifth day of treatment, it was reported that redness occurred on the baby's arm while the nurse was caring for the baby and the incubator. We immediately intervened, thinking it could be a burn related to the incubator's heat. We provided appropriate treatments. With the treatments and evaluations made, there was no discharge or anything at the wound site on the child's arm, and it was improving significantly. When we conducted blood tests, there was no infection, and we discharged the baby. A medical team from Gaziantep also came to conduct checks regarding this situation, and it was stated that there would be no issues or lasting effects on the baby's arm due to this incident," he said.
