The attacker who martyred the female police officer had a criminal record for sexual harassment and abuse.

The 19-year-old suspect, Yunus Emre Geçti, who killed a female police officer during a scuffle in Ümraniye, has been found to have a criminal record for one instance of sexual harassment and two instances of sexual abuse of a child.

In Ümraniye, Yunus Emre Geçti, who was caught for motorcycle theft, opened fire during the ensuing scuffle, resulting in the martyrdom of 27-year-old police officer Şeyda Yılmaz, and injuring two people, one of whom was a police officer. It was revealed that the 19-year-old assailant had 26 criminal records, while it was learned that Yunus Emre Geçti had a criminal record for sexual harassment once and for sexual abuse of a child twice.

Some of Yunus Emre Geçti's 26 criminal records are as follows:

  • 1 count of drug trafficking
  • 8 counts of drug use
  • 2 counts of intentional injury
  • 1 count of sexual harassment
  • 2 counts of robbery
  • 1 count of theft
  • 2 counts of sexual abuse of a child
  • 1 count of theft
  • 2 counts of damaging property

HOW DID THE INCIDENT OCCUR?

According to a statement from the Istanbul Police Department, an operation was carried out to capture the suspect who was caught for "motorcycle theft" by the Dudullu Police Station of the Ümraniye District Police Department and subsequently fled.

TOOK THE POLICE OFFICER'S GUN

During the operations, Y.E.Ç (19), who has 26 criminal records for various offenses, was captured in the Ihlamurkuyu neighborhood while attempts were being made to secure him. A scuffle occurred between the suspect and the officers on duty. The suspect took the officer's gun and opened fire on the police and bystanders, while female police officer Şeyda Yılmaz (27) also returned fire.

In the incident, Yılmaz and police officer K.H.S., along with the suspect's mother P.G. (43), who was present at the scene, were injured. The injured were taken to the hospital after initial interventions, while female police officer Şeyda Yılmaz could not be saved despite all efforts and was martyred. The treatments of injured police officer K.H.S. and P.G. are ongoing at the hospital. In the police operation, the suspect Y.E.Ç. was also taken into custody while injured.

The statement noted that an investigation had been initiated against the suspect for "intentional murder" and "intentional injury," expressing condolences for our martyr, wishing mercy from Allah, and extending condolences to the grieving family, relatives, and our heroic police organization. We wish a speedy recovery to our injured police officer.
