In Ümraniye, a suspect caught for motorcycle theft shot and killed 27-year-old female police officer Şeyda Yılmaz with a weapon taken from a police officer during a scuffle. During the conflict, two people, including one police officer, were injured, and the captured assailant was sent to the courthouse. While being taken to the courthouse, the assailant was dressed in a black garbage bag and was escorted by two female police officers to an animal transport vehicle belonging to the Animal Status Monitoring Department. POLICE OFFICER RETURNED FIREAccording to a statement from the Istanbul Police Department, an operation was conducted to capture the individual who was caught for "motorcycle theft" by the Dudullu Police Station of the Ümraniye District Police Department and subsequently fled. In the operations, Y.E.Ç. (19), who has 26 criminal records for various offenses, was captured in the Ihlamurkuyu neighborhood, and a scuffle occurred between him and the officers trying to secure him. The suspect took the officer's weapon and fired at the police and bystanders, while female police officer Şeyda Yılmaz (27) also returned fire. DESPITE ALL INTERVENTIONS, SHE BECAME A MARTYRIn the incident, Yılmaz and police officer K.H.S., along with the suspect's mother P.G. (43), were injured. The injured were taken to the hospital after initial interventions, while female police officer Şeyda Yılmaz could not be saved despite all efforts and became a martyr. The treatments of injured police officer K.H.S. and P.G. are ongoing at the hospital. In the police operation, the suspect Y.E.Ç. was also taken into custody while injured. The statement noted that an investigation had been initiated against the suspect for "intentional murder" and "intentional injury," expressing condolences to our martyr, wishing mercy from Allah, and wishing urgent recovery to our injured police officer.
