"The 'bad odor' complaint saved 85 sick cats! The woman who was keeping the animals received a fine of 613 thousand liras."

Teams took action upon the bad smell coming from a warehouse in Istanbul. Inside the opened warehouse, 85 sick cats were found stacked. The woman who was found to have mistreated the cats and stacked them was fined 613,360 Turkish liras.

Teams were alerted by a bad smell complaint coming from a street in Şişli, Istanbul. Officials who went to the address found a total of 85 cats stacked up. The sick animals were taken under treatment.

CATS IN THE WAREHOUSE AFTER THE BAD SMELL

The incident that took place in Şişli İzzetpaşa Neighborhood on June 25 allegedly happened as follows. Residents of the neighborhood reported to the municipality due to a bad smell in the area. When the teams arrived and investigated, they determined that the source of the smell was a warehouse. The veterinary teams, who saw dozens of cats inside, immediately reported the situation to the Security Branch Directorate Environmental, Nature and Animal Protection Bureau.

85 SICK CATS WERE FOUND

When the police arrived at the scene, the owner of the business, T.K., told them that his daughter G.B. collected the cats from the street and brought them to this warehouse to take care of them. When the teams opened the door and entered, they determined that 85 cats were being kept in extremely poor and unhealthy conditions, and almost all of them were sick.

ILL-TREATMENT OF NEGLECTED ANIMALS

Through Şişli Municipality Veterinary Affairs officials, a total of 85 cats of various breeds found inside the shop were taken into custody. The police later went to the Veterinary Affairs Directorate a few days later and also followed up on the animals. In the controls conducted on the animals together with the Responsible Veterinarian, it was determined that the care and feeding of the animals were seriously neglected, the treatment of the sick animals was not carried out, and the animals were mistreated.

613,000 LIRA FINE FOR 85 CATS

As a result, the police issued an administrative sanction decision report to the 59-year-old woman G.B. in accordance with Article 14-A of the Law on the Protection of Animals No. 5199, with a fine of 7,216 lira per animal, totaling 613,360 lira.
