THE BAN ON SECOND-HAND GOODS SALES HAS BEEN LIFTED
The normalization process continues in Syria. There is increased activity in the streets and avenues that were silent during the regime period. The ban on second-hand goods sales, which was imposed during the Hafez al-Assad era, has been lifted with the fall of the regime. The increasing number of street vendors in the capital, Damascus, has drawn attention. Citizens expressed their satisfaction with the normalization, stating that street vending was not allowed during the era of the deposed leader Assad, and they received prison sentences for it.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE THE PRICES ARE THIS CHEAP"
Ömer Al Ali, who stated that the penalty for selling second-hand goods during the Assad era was imprisonment, said, "Previously, not just during Assad's time, but since the time of his father Hafez al-Assad, selling second-hand goods was prohibited. The regime had banned the entry of second-hand goods into Syria. Their excuse was that it would cause diseases. But they used to sell us plastic slippers produced in Syria for 20 dollars. Now we are buying boots for 1 dollar, and we can't believe it. I couldn't believe the prices are this cheap. I bought 6 pairs of shoes," he said.
"SYRIA WILL BECOME EVEN CHEAPER"
Muhammed Al Masri, who believes that their country will develop even further, stated, "Now everything has become better. These were previously prohibited. The boots we sold used to cost 30 dollars. Now people are flocking to buy second-hand shoes. In the future, Syria will become even cheaper and more beautiful. A camel used to cost one lira, but we didn't have a lira. Thank God, we will see even better days," he expressed.
