In a fire that broke out on a tour boat in the district of Marmaris in Muğla, 110 people were evacuated while 4 people were injured, 3 of them seriously. It was determined during the investigation that the fire originated from the engine room. The owner of the boat and the captain were taken into custody.
A fire broke out on the 20-meter long tour boat named 'Eagles' anchored on Goat Island in Marmaris yesterday around 16.30 for unknown reasons. Some of the local and foreign tourists on the boat panicked and jumped into the water when they saw the flames, while others were rescued by nearby boats, tour boats, and Coast Guard teams that came to help.
THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED AFTER 3 HOURS OF WORK
110 people were evacuated from the burning boat and the sea, and 4 of them, including 3 seriously injured with burns, were taken to the shore and transferred to the hospital by ambulance. While the Aksaz Naval Base Command and the Coast Guard Command intervened in the burning boat, the fire was extinguished after a 3-hour operation. Meanwhile, 3 of the injured were taken to Muğla Education and Research Hospital after the initial intervention in Marmaris.
THE BOAT OWNER AND THE CAPTAIN ARE IN CUSTODY
An investigation was launched by the Marmaris Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident. In this context, it was determined in the examination conducted by the Coast Guard Command that the fire originated from an auxiliary machine in the engine room. After the examination, the boat owner Soner D. and the boat captain Emre K. were taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
