In Diyarbakır, Damla Sakallı (20), who wanted to undergo nasal surgery due to difficulty breathing, passed away after feeling unwell following the serum administered before the surgery at a private hospital she applied to. Her father, Şeyhmus Sakallı (48), said, "My daughter said, 'I can't breathe at night, even if I die, I will have this surgery.' I will complain about them for the rest of my life. I raised and educated my children by working as a porter. My family and I never deserved this." Living in Diyarbakır, Damla Sakallı wanted to have nasal surgery because she had cracks in her nose that made it difficult for her to breathe. Damla was admitted to a private hospital in the Kayapınar district for her surgery. After the serum was administered before the surgery, Damla fell ill. Her condition worsened, and she was taken to the intensive care unit of the same hospital, but despite all the doctors' interventions, she could not be saved. Damla's body was buried in the Şilbe Cemetery in the Yenişehir district amid the tears of her relatives after the autopsy procedures at the Forensic Medicine Institution. Following the family's complaint, an investigation was launched by the prosecutor's office on suspicion of negligence in her death. 'I TRUST THE STATE, IT WILL REVEAL THE TRUTH ABOUT MY DAUGHTER'S DEATH'Damla's father, Şeyhmus Sakallı, stated that his daughter had cracks in her nose due to a fall when she was little and wanted to have surgery because she had difficulty breathing. He said: "Damla was the most beautiful person in the world. Damla had fallen when she was little, and there were cracks in her nose. We visited all the hospitals in Diyarbakır, but no hospital approved her surgery. My daughter had asthma. Her mother called me at 8:00 AM and said, 'I am taking Damla to the hospital, come.' I told her, 'You are not operating on Damla.' I rushed to the hospital without even washing my face. Before I reached the stairs, they said, 'My daughter is dead.' Damla had cracks in her nose, and she was going to have surgery to fix those cracks. My daughter paid 80,000 TL. Three nurses came and administered the serum to my daughter. As soon as they administered the serum, they left, and after 2 or 3 drops of serum, I looked at my daughter, and she was completely black, foam was coming from her mouth. I shouted and called for help, but the nurses told me, 'There is nothing wrong, why are you shouting?' I said, 'My daughter is dying.' All the doctors in the hospital gathered, and they took my daughter directly to intensive care. My daughter had already died upstairs at 8:30 AM. When they took her to intensive care, they deceived me. They said, 'Your daughter is alive,' but they were lying. To buy time, almost 2,000 police officers were deployed all around the hospital, from riot police to dolphin police. After securing the area, they told me at midnight, 'Your daughter has died.' We shouted and called, but nothing came of it; the police blocked us. In the end, they took us to the Forensic Medicine Institution. I didn't know my daughter was there. They told us that my daughter had been there for a long time. I am complaining about these people, this administration, that doctor, and everyone in that hospital. I trust the state; it will reveal the truth about my daughter's death. We brought her to Yeniköy Cemetery. We placed her in the morgue, came in the morning, washed my daughter's body, and buried her in Şilbe Cemetery." 'MY DAUGHTER, WHO WAS A HEALTH WORKER, DIED IN THE HANDS OF HEALTH WORKERS'Şeyhmus Sakallı stated that no one from the hospital called to inquire about them, saying, "My daughter was a very beautiful girl, very good. I was very pleased with her. My daughter was like an angel. She was 20 years old and had graduated from university; she was waiting for her appointment. She was going to be a medical secretary. My daughter, who was a health worker, died in the hands of health workers. I will complain for the rest of my life. Even if the world collapses, I will complain. Even if I die, no matter what happens, I will complain. My daughter said, 'I can't breathe at night, I am struggling, no matter what, I will have this surgery, even if I die.' We opposed it; I opposed it very much. This doctor also influenced her mind. To take her 80,000 TL. He didn't perform the surgery, he didn't do anything. He took her 80,000 TL. The doctor is currently not in the market; he didn't even come to explain anything to us. That butcher was after money. We wanted the management of that hospital to come to our condolence, to express their condolences. Unfortunately, no management, no doctor helped, they didn't express their condolences, not even a phone call. I will never let this go; even if I have to sell my jacket, I will hire a lawyer for the rest of my life. I will complain about them for the rest of my life after my daughter's death. I raised my children by carrying coal, working as a porter, moving houses, and cleaning houses. I educated all of them, but they didn't deserve this; she didn't deserve this death. I worked day and night as a porter until I raised them. I raised and educated my children by working as a porter. My family and I never deserved this," he said. The hospital management, which the DHA reporter wanted to speak to about the incident, stated that they did not want to comment.
