The speech made by MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli at his party's group meeting stirred the political agenda in Ankara. Bahçeli said regarding the terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, "Let him come to the TBMM and join the DEM ranks and declare that he has laid down his arms, let him proclaim that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been dissolved."

CLAIM OF "PERMISSION GRANTED TO VISIT ÖCALAN"

Following Bahçeli's call, a striking claim began to be discussed in Ankara's backstage. It was alleged that the application made by Öcalan's nephew, DEM Party Şanlıurfa Deputy Ömer Öcalan, to visit İmralı was accepted. Journalist Hande Fırat stated in her post regarding the issue, "The application for the İmralı visit was made by his nephew Ömer Öcalan a long time ago. There is no official statement yet, but the information received indicates that permission has been granted for the visit. It is expected to happen soon."

ÖCALAN'S LAWYERS' REQUESTS TO MEET WITH HIM WERE REJECTED

During the State of Emergency (OHAL) declared in July 2016, the ban on lawyer visits for Öcalan continued until February 2018. After this date, the requests of lawyers to meet were banned for 6-month periods. With the last ban decision, Abdullah Öcalan has been subjected to at least 13 bans on lawyer visits for 6 months over the past 8 years.

Bahçeli said the following at the group meeting: "The terrorist leader who said he is ready for all kinds of service when brought to Turkey should come and declare that terrorism has ended. Let him come to the TBMM and join the DEM ranks and declare that he has laid down his arms, let him proclaim that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been dissolved. If he shows this determination, the way for a legal regulation regarding the use of the right to hope will be opened wide. We are determined and faithful to take every step.
