In Izmir, 42-year-old cleaning worker Özkan Aydik returned 23 million lira that was deposited into his account, stating it was "haram" (forbidden). Curious about whether the money had been returned, Aydik said, "The bank officials informed me that they could not disclose where the money came from and where it went due to regulations. I became uneasy and I will go to the police station to report the situation."

A cleaning worker living in the Menderes district of İzmir experienced the shock of his life when he logged into his mobile banking application to pay a bill and saw over 23 million Turkish Liras in his account. The honest citizen, who immediately returned the 23 million Liras to the bank, said he now wants to know where the money came from and where the bank returned it.

Özkan Aydik, a 42-year-old cleaning worker living in the Gölcükler neighborhood of Menderes district, saw that 23 million 16 thousand 393 Turkish Liras had been deposited into his account when he logged into his mobile banking application on the morning of October 23 to pay his natural gas bill. Shocked by the amount, Aydik immediately reported the situation to the bank's customer service. Wanting to know where the money came from, Özkan Aydik went to the bank branch when he received no information. After returning the entire excess amount in his account to the bank, Aydik still could not find out where the money came from.

HE EXPERIENCED GREAT ANXIETY

Özkan Aydik, who stated that he did not want to confuse his mind and did not tell anyone about the situation beforehand, explained the situation to his family and neighbor after returning the money to the bank. Experiencing great anxiety, Özkan Aydik wanted to explain the situation to the public upon the advice of his neighbor Uğur Karaca. The honest citizen later went to the Menderes District Police Department to give a statement.

HE THOUGHT IT WAS 'HARAM' MONEY

Özkan Aydik, who said he experienced a great shock, stated that he returned the entire amount because he thought it was 'haram' money. Aydik said, "When I logged into my mobile banking application to pay my natural gas bill, I saw that there was over 23 million Liras in my account. In shock, I immediately called the bank's customer service and asked where this money came from. When I received no answer, I went straight to the bank and explained the situation. They made a few phone calls, and then I returned the entire amount I received to the bank because I thought it was 'haram' money," he said.

"I RETURNED IT, BUT WHERE DID THIS MONEY GO?"

Özkan Aydik stated, "I didn't mention this incident to anyone until I went to the bank to return the money, thinking they might confuse my mind. I returned the money just like any citizen would when paying at the counter. Then, no one from the bank officials came to ask where this money came from. I became suspicious and explained the situation to my neighbor. So, where did this money come from? I returned the money, but where did it go? I want to know that. The bank officials informed me that they could not disclose where the money came from and where it went due to regulations. I became anxious and now I will go to the police station to report the situation," he explained.
