The debate between Minister Memişoğlu and CHP member Emir over the 'Newborn Gang'

The debate between Minister Memişoğlu and CHP member Emir over the 'Newborn Gang'

11.12.2024 23:30

During the ongoing budget discussions in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the words of Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, who spoke on behalf of the executive, were interrupted by shouts of "resign" from the opposition benches. Following his speech, CHP member Murat Emir reacted to Minister Memişoğlu, saying, "I think his problem is not in his ear, but in his heart."

The budget proposals for the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Health for the year 2025 are being discussed in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

During the discussions, Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu took the podium to speak on behalf of the executive and explained the projects his ministry had carried out in the past year.

PROTEST OF THE 'NEONATAL GANG'

As Minister Memişoğlu mentioned the 'Neonatal Gang' investigation, which has become a hot topic in Turkey, reactions rose from the opposition benches just one minute before he finished his speech. Memişoğlu's speech was frequently interrupted by opposition members. The deputies protested Memişoğlu with calls for 'resignation'. Meanwhile, the AK Party benches frequently supported Memişoğlu's speech with applause.

"IF YOU HAD DOCUMENTS, WHY DIDN'T YOU SHARE THEM WITH THE PROSECUTORS?"

On the other hand, after the protests, Memişoğlu addressed the opposition benches, saying, "If you had information and documents, where was your mind until the indictment was published? Why did you keep this information to yourselves? Why didn't you share it with the prosecutors and the competent authorities?"

CHP'S MURAT EMİR: THE PROBLEM IS NOT IN HIS EAR, BUT IN HIS HEART

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir, who spoke from his seat, reacted to Minister Memişoğlu after his speech. Emir, who asked Memişoğlu to answer questions, said, "The minister is making a gesture from there; I think he is having difficulty hearing. But I believe his problem is not in his ear, but in his heart."

Emir used the following statements:

"You avoided answering even the simplest questions asked about the Neonatal Gang discussed here all day. He did not answer our questions on behalf of the people. Those who flee from this Assembly, know that those who flee from the people cannot come out among the people from now on. I call out to the minister in this state, as a physician, do not do this to yourself. Do not leave such a legacy for your children. Either come here and answer the questions asked, or resign from that position as soon as possible. You will not be able to escape from answering these questions. The minister is making a gesture from there; I think he is having difficulty hearing. But I believe his problem is not in his ear, but in his heart. He may have a problem in his brain, but I see a great lack of conscience in his heart. Because he cannot hear what he hears. We are discussing the Neonatal Gang here; all of Turkey's eyes have been on this for months. We are the representatives of the people; this is the Assembly of the people. You cannot escape from the questions asked in the Assembly of the people; the hand of the people will never leave your collar. Know this as well."
