The trial of Mehmet Say, the arrested defendant in the murder of Gülhan Taş, who was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend in Ankara, has begun on charges of "intentional killing with monstrous feelings or by causing torture." Say, who expressed remorse, drew attention with his defense: "I unintentionally killed the woman I loved."
The hearing held at Ankara 33rd Heavy Penal Court was attended by the detained defendant Say, relatives of the victim, and lawyers of the parties. After the summary of the indictment was read, the presiding judge gave the floor to the defendant to make his defense.
"I UNINTENTIONALLY KILLED THE WOMAN I LOVED"
The defendant Say expressed that he was very regretful about the incident and was not himself at the time of the event, saying, "I unintentionally killed the woman I loved."
The plaintiff's lawyer also requested from the court that the defendant's detention continue and that he receive the maximum penalty in line with the collected evidence.
HEARING ADJOURNED
The public prosecutor, when asked for his opinion, requested the completion of missing aspects and the continuation of the defendant's current status. Announcing its interim decision, the court ruled for the continuation of the detained defendant Say's current status, adjourning the hearing to September 24.
Gülhan Taş had lost her life on December 8, 2025, in Ankara when she was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend Mehmet Say as she left home to go to work in the morning.
After the murder, Say was taken into custody and arrested, with an aggravated life sentence sought against him for the charge of "killing a woman with premeditation, monstrous intent, or by torture."
