The deputy mayor, who was attacked in his office, has an 80% vision loss in his eyes.

The Deputy Mayor of İzmir Menderes, Rüzgar Sönmez, met with a person named Yakup T. and a group of friends to discuss a business license in his office. During the meeting, tension arose. Yakup T. pulled out his gun and threatened Sönmez. His cousin, Halil K., also assaulted Deputy Mayor Sönmez. Sönmez reported the incident to the police and filed a complaint. Following the complaint, the police detained Yakup T. and his cousin Halil K. The detained suspects were taken to the District Police Department.

80% VISION LOSS

Sönmez was taken to Menderes State Hospital by ambulance. It was reported that he experienced 80% vision loss in one eye as a result of the assault. The suspects' processing at the police station is ongoing.

STATEMENT FROM THE IZMIR GOVERNORATE

In a written statement from the İzmir Governorate, it was said, "At around 12:30 today, our teams swiftly arrived at the scene following a report of an 'assaulted person' at the Menderes Municipality. An investigation revealed that an arrest was made based on the allegation that Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez was punched. Judicial investigation regarding the matter is ongoing."

THE PLANNING DIRECTOR WAS INJURED IN THE LEG

Meanwhile, on August 8, Sarper Dikmen, the Director of Planning and Urbanism of Menderes Municipality, was also injured in the leg during an armed attack on İnönü Street. After the incident, one of the two suspects detained, Murat Özcan, was arrested, while Y.A. was released under judicial control.
