The trial of Banu Kaya, the Physical Education and Sports Teacher of the school, continued regarding the incident that occurred on September 2, 2024, at Gazi Primary and Secondary School in the Saray neighborhood of the Altınordu district. In the third hearing, after the first hearing on September 24, 2024, and the second hearing on October 10, teacher Banu Kaya participated in the hearing as a defendant via the Audio and Visual Information System from Efirli E-Type Prison, where she is being held. In the hearing, the complainants, mother Eda and father Yakup Arslan, along with Miray's family, the parties, and the defendant's lawyers were present.

"I HAVE TWO CHILDREN WAITING FOR ME"

In the hearing held at the Ordu 5th Criminal Court of First Instance, the defendant Banu Kaya reiterated her previous statements, saying, "I am very sorry. I have two children, they are preparing for exams. My children and my students need me. They are all waiting for me. I have no administrative or official traffic fines."

GRIEVING FATHER: WHERE IS MY CHILD?

Mother Eda Arslan stated that she had nothing to add to her previous statements. Father Yakup Arslan claimed that the defendant laughed during her statement, saying, "She talks about sincerity. Where is my child? She says her children are waiting at home. After all, I am a father. Where is my child?"

In response, the defendant Banu Kaya, who was given the floor again, stated, "It is the court's discretion; I do not accept the accusations that I offered insincere apologies. My dialogues with my students are known. I am very sorry about the incident." The court panel decided to continue the defendant's detention and postponed the hearing to a later date.

The background of the incident occurred on September 2, 2024, at Gazi Primary and Secondary School in the Altınordu district, where first-grade student Miray Arslan (7), who was going to school for the first time as part of the adaptation week, was hit by the school's Physical Education and Sports Teacher Banu Kaya, who did not notice the child in front of the iron gate in the schoolyard with her Mercedes GLB 200 SUV with license plate 52 BK 790. Miray Arslan, who was severely injured after being run over by the SUV, passed away at Ordu University Training and Research Hospital, where she was taken. In her first hearing, the defendant claimed that none of the sensors in her vehicle were working, and in the indictment presented by the prosecution in the second hearing, she was found to be primarily at fault.
