The Director of the US Secret Service resigned due to an assassination attempt on Trump.

After facing criticism following the shooting during former US President Donald Trump's election rally, Director of the US Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle has resigned.

According to the Associated Press (AP), Cheatle's resignation was announced based on an email she sent to the US Secret Service personnel.

"I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY"

In the email she sent, Cheatle stated, "I take full responsibility for the security vulnerability. After the events that occurred, I have made the difficult decision to resign."

"RESIGNATION" CALLS IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Cheatle's resignation came after she answered questions about the assassination attempt on former President Trump during a session in the House of Representatives yesterday.

Describing the assassination attempt on Trump as "the biggest operational failure the Secret Service has experienced in many years," Cheatle stated that they have had necessary discussions within the service to shed light on the incident in all its dimensions and to prevent such security vulnerabilities from happening again.

RESIGNED

During the session that lasted for more than 4 hours, members of Congress from both parties questioned Cheatle and directed harsh criticism towards her for the failure to prevent the assassination attempt, calling for her immediate resignation. Following intense criticism, Cheatle announced her resignation today. Cheatle became the Director of the US Secret Service in 2022.
