The astonishing event in Mersin began when two little girls stopped to pet a 2.5-month-old Pomeranian puppy named 'Gece', which was tied to the door of a shop.
THE CHILDREN PUT IT DOWN AFTER PETTING
The incident occurred on October 26 at around 12:00 PM, on Fındıkpınarı Street in the Central Neighborhood of Mezitli district. Two girls walking on the sidewalk stopped to pet the puppy named 'Gece', which was tied to the door of a mobile phone sales shop. The girls held the puppy in their arms and petted it for a while. The puppy was then dropped to the ground from a height of 1 meter by one of the girls. As the children waved goodbye and left the shop, seconds later, the puppy died in agony. The events were captured by the shop's security camera. Noticing that the puppy was motionless, the shop owner Şahin Akat took it to the veterinarian without wasting any time. The veterinarian confirmed that the puppy had died. Şahin Akat reported to the police, filing a complaint against the two girls he accused of causing the death of the puppy he had adopted 10 days earlier.
"IT IS OFFICIALLY A MURDER"
Şahin Akat stated, "What happened to my puppy is officially a murder. After all, it carries a life. They did not ask for my permission to pet my dog. When I last watched the video recordings, I looked from different angles. There is a big difference between what I saw from the right and what I saw from the left. For example, in the recording I viewed from the right, the cause of the puppy's death is not visible, while in the left recording, I see that the puppy, which was held under the arm, was left breathless. After that, we immediately went to the veterinarian. When we arrived at the veterinarian, the puppy's tongue was purple. This means the puppy died from suffocation. The puppy stays upstairs, and I stay downstairs. The place where the puppy lived was cleaned, and the floor was mopped. Everything happened at that moment when the mop was being used. We do not let anyone pet our dog. Everything happened within half an hour. It was definitely intentional. No, at least a person should inform me. I mean, they could say the puppy is not breathing or something. This is definitely intentional. After that, my first job was to go to the police station. Of course, I filed a criminal complaint at the police station. After that, I took my dog to the animal graveyard and buried it. After all, it is a life. I did not look at it as just a dog. It was a part of us now," he said.
AN AUTOPSY WILL BE PERFORMED ON THE PUPPY
Upon Akat's complaint, the police teams requested the puppy to be exhumed for an autopsy. Akat handed over the lifeless body of his puppy to the police teams for the autopsy. The teams also detained the two children whose identities they had identified. The children were released after giving their statements due to their young age.
